Stopping Droplet Rebound with Polymer Additives: A Molecular Viewpoint

چکیده
Abstract The origin of rebound suppression an impacting droplet by a small amount polymer additive has been tentatively explained various physical concepts including the dynamic surface tension, additional energy dissipation non-Newtonian elongational viscosity, elastic force stretched polymer, and friction on receding contact line. To better understand role molecular level, we performed multi-body dissipative particle dynamics simulations droplets solvophobic surfaces. is achieved during hopping stage, line retraction stage. Both slow-hopping slow-retraction mechanisms coexist in wide range simulation parameters, but latter prevailing for large droplets, strong attraction strength between surface. increased adsorption, which maybe higher concentration or larger weight, stimulates both mechanisms. Also, evidence shown from relation angle velocity where slope fitted indication friction.

متن کاملDroplet rebound from rigid or strongly hydrophobic sur- faces
– A weakly deformable droplet impinging on a rigid surface rebounds if the surface is intrinsically hydrophobic or if the gas film trapped underneath the droplet is able to keep the interfaces from touching. A simple, physically motivated model inspired by analysis of droplets colliding with deformable interfaces is proposed in order to investigate the dynamics of the rebound process and the ef...
متن کاملAdvances in Polymer Processing Additives (PPA)
In previous work, flow visualization was used to understand how polymer processing additives (PPA) eliminate sharkskin in linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). The PPA migrates to and coats the die wall, induces slippage, and eliminates sharkskin. In this work, the interface between the PPA and LLDPE was further characterized using reflection light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, e...
متن کاملFoam Stability Related to Polymer Permeability. I. Low Molecular Weight Additives
In the production of polyethylene foams by extrusion with alkanes as a blowing agent, significant changes in the dimensions of extruded products are encountered. The dimensional stability of a foam with a structure of closed cells is improved by blending the polymer with small amounts of a low molecular weight additive. It is believed that the dimensional stability is related to the ratio of th...
